The Rome Red 10U Boys All-Star Baseball squad is one win away from capturing the GRPA District 5 Class A/B Title. The squad, which has run through the tournament with three-straight wins, takes on Summerville tonight at Riverview Park Field 3 at 6:15 p.m. in the tournament finals.
Because the tournament is double elimination, Summerville, which fell to Rome 3-1 earlier in the tournament, would have to beat Rome twice to win the title. If Summerville wins the first game, the two teams will play again at approximately 7:45 in the if-necessary game.
Rome Red reached the finals by topping Murray on Tuesday, June 6, 9-1, Summerville on Thursday, June 8, 3-1 and beating Rockmart, 3-1, on Monday evening. Rome Red has allowed only two runs in the tournament and has scored 15. The Rome Blue All-Stars also competed in the tournament finishing in ninth place.
Both Rome Red and Summerville have now qualified for the GRPA State Class A/B Baseball Tournament which will be held in Gainesville beginning on Tuesday, July 20.
